How to Write a Childrens Book

"How to write a childrens book?" is a question that is asked a lot. This site is dedicated to answering this question, as well as others like how to find an illustrator, whether to self publish or go the traditional route and much more.

Writing a children's book does not have to be difficult, and yet many people put it off waiting for "some day."  If this is truly your dream then you must make a commitment to write each day without judgement.

Not every sentence will be perfect the first time around. Successful writers write first and edit later. Remember, at this point, the only person who will see this is you. Grammar and punctuation do not matter at this point in time and later, when you are at the point of wanting to publish, I will show you where to hire an editor for a very reasonable amount.

Another thing that I hear from would be writers is the question," Should I self publish or go the traditional route?" Write the book first. You are putting the cart before the horse.

In most cases, you will self publish. It is simply easier to do this, unless you have connections. If you want to be picked up by bigger publishers, then you will need to market yourself and your book. I will show you later how to do this.

You simply need to decide how successful you wish to be. If you have the time, energy and perserverance to go all the way, I will give you step by step instructions. Or you can simply write for your friends and family. There is a great deal of satisfaction to be had in simply doing this. Many authors write stories for their own children, to begin with, and then consider publication later.

Decide now what your end goal is and then pick and choose from the writing and publishing articles that you find here to point you in the right direction.

Now if you have absolutely no clue how to start a story, there are some awesome writing software packages out there that will guide you along. All great stories follow a formula. These programs will take you from chapter one through your finale, based on the formula you choose.

When I need to brainstorm a children's novel for preteens or teens, I use New Novel Software. This software was a life saver for me. It helps you really come up with well thought out characters. It also helps you decide what type of story you are creating and gives you the exact formula, chapter by chapter, so that you can write it.

This software took all of the guess work out of writing a novel for me and will help your characters and story come alive.
